Communication In my Life

Well, we are almost in the end of the semester, and It is great to see how the subjects flows every week during this class. This week I learned about communication, and you can think that this is something pretty easy, but there is a lot to learn about it. I learned that there are three types of communications, they are the following: Words, Tone, and Non-Verbal. I think these three principles applies in almost every culture, so when Brother Williams was talking about that, I just remember how it was in my country. First, I knew that there is a lot of power in a communication. If you speak with confidence, you can see many good opportunities coming to you. This is why sometimes being shy its not a good deal. I remember that I was getting ready to fill my mission papers, one Sunday the elder quorum president asked me if I could lecture for the quorum next Sunday. I got desperate, because I was really shy, so I went home think about what I should do. I thought about just don’t show up, or just tell the president that you can do it, but while I was reading this talk from general conference in order to prepare the lecture, I felt that I should try, so I went forth and gave a good lecture the next Sunday, that helped me a little, but it wasn’t all. However, When I was in the mission field, perhaps I was serving in my own country, it was difficult to get the confidence and talk with everybody about the Church and Jesus Christ. I was afraid of people mocking at me, and just rejecting the massage I had. With time, I learned that I just needed to do my personal best, and that means that I couldn’t compare myself with other missionaries with a lot more time in the field. Few months later, I could see the difference when I was able to talk with confidence with people. Another thing that was important was the non-verbal communication. I think this is really important because it was in this part when we were able to see if the investigator was really interested in our massage. They could be smiling, paying attention, and wondering to hear something more, but we could also see people with this angry face, getting mad about something we said, or just daydreaming. This was the moment that I learned how to read this people, and that was also helpful when trying to talk with people at the street. I could see who was kind of ready to hear our massage, so we wouldn’t waste our time. Then, it comes the tone aspect of our communication. We could use that soft tone to reach people, but a higher tone when bearing our testimony with power. That made our speech impactful in so many hearts, even if the people didn’t accept to be baptized. When I return home, I was ready to go find a job, and do some job interviews, because I learned how to communicate with people. I could see that the words of the Lord in the book of Mormon are totally true, when we read that weak thinks can become strong things. Today, I still feel that I don’t have enough confidence to speak; Specially now that I`m in a new culture speaking a new language, but I know that I can repeat the process of communication that I learned in the mission field again, and I know that I will be blessed by doing that once again.
