2 Months as Foreign guy
This week was amazing. I learned a lot
about different people and culture around the world, and how this can affect
many families.
During classroom we saw a representation of
a Mexican family that was moving to United States without any documents. We would
able to see how some little or giant changes can affect an entire family at
once.
That made me remember about my own move to
Unites States few months ago. At the
beginning before my marriage I was planning to come by myself, living in a
approved housing and being able to travel back to my country every off track to
see my parents again. I think that would not affect my family a lot. But plans
changed because I got married and then more people, specially my wife would
face a huge challenge in our lives. I remember I started to ponder and to think
deeply if that was the right thing to do. I knew It was something I wanted my
whole life, but I started to think `` is this what my wife wants?`` I have no
doubt that this is a really common thing to ask yourself when you are an
international student moving from one country to another. I heard that we have
here in Brigham Young University Idaho more then One thousand and six hundred
International students. What a change for so many people. Specially for married
couples.
So I started to pray, and see if this was
the right things for us to do. The answer came many days after and it was yes.
We started our plans and my wife told my Father in Law about our decision, and
the feedback was terrible. He said that this was not for us, and that we should
stay in our own country because it would be better for us and for the whole
family. It was just like we saw in classroom. We got really upset because on
the other hand, my parents were supporting us a lot and even given some nice
tips for us about living in another country. We decided to talk again with my
father in law, and we tried to explain him the good things we could reach
achieving an international degree in this University. At this point he was
better with us, and told us that we should do what we want. I remember it was a
hard time for my wife, because some how she was between her father and me. She
was brave enough to say that she would follow me wherever I go, and then we
really started to plan our travel. At this point all of our family members was
knowing about our moving, they started to support us even more and when we
finally was ready to get on the plane and travel, something really bad
happened. It was the 2021 covid pandemic. This little virus that came from
Chine traveled the whole Country to be against the plans me and mt wife made
for so many months. He had to stop all again an for a moment or two, we though
about given up of everything and just stay in Sao Paulo or maybe in Goiania
which is my wife`s hometown. Finally things get better in my Country and we
would able to apply for our visas and travel safe to United States. Its been a
blessing for us, even with this big change of culture in our life. Our family
is all supporting us and we fell really blessed at this time. I hope we can
inspire others to achieve their goals as well.
